The telephone is an incredible instrument that has not only changed the way the entire world communicates, but has also led to many other inventions that have changed the way we think about communicating.

Old Phone

The actual inventor of the telephone is highly debated as the concept was created by several people, however the title of the inventor is often attributed to Alexander Graham Bell with the grant for his patent on his transmitter and receiver, accepted on the 6th of April 1875.

From that point on, it was a race for several inventors who all started to grasp the basic idea of communication through signals and wires.

Push button PhoneIt has often been said that Bell wished to make a device to talk to the deaf – an idea of which seemed to be a positive attribute towards the communication between Bell and other members of his family who were unfortunately deaf.

However, as his investigation towards the invention progressed, so did the idea of sending messages through a signal of two wires interconnected and he began researching the idea of being able to communicate with people metres, if not kilometres away from where the original recipient of the telephone was located.

The telephone went through many stages of progress, including consistently downsizing the equipment needed for the phone, the ways in which to dial, and the design and placement of the phone.

Since the final stages of developing the telephone and its initial release to the public the telephone has come a long way. Its early and humble form it involved long waiting periods between talking to the operator, and waiting to talk to whoever you wished to call.

The education of the new way of communication took some time, especially when the technology developed to having a number for each phone, and an area code for each county, state, or country.
